Starting a company is hard... really hard
I Started a New Company. Here’s What We’re Building—and How You Can Help.
As many of you know, I’ve started a few companies. I’ve gone back and forth between working for someone and starting my own thing. The most recent position I held was the Director of Developer Relations (an org which I created) for the past 6 years. It had it’s ups and down as any job does, and now I’m on to something else.
🧠 Meet Gardner Tech Group
About a month ago, I officially launched Gardner Tech Group, a consulting firm that helps businesses use AI and software to work smarter, not harder.
We specialize in automating workflows—because let’s be honest:
Every business has processes that are manual, repetitive, or just plain frustrating.
If you’ve ever thought “Why am I doing this by hand again?” — you’re in our audience.
💡We’re also building products:
AnnapolisDirectory.com - a small business directory in the Annapolis, MD area.
JobTracker.pro - a tool to help you manage job applications, track progress, notes, resumes, and job application status.
…and a new one in the works 👀
💼 What We Do
Every business has inefficiencies—routines that don’t scale, repetitive tasks, messy spreadsheets, broken workflows. That’s where we come in.
We:
Automate busywork and manual processes
Help small teams use AI (no devs needed)
Modernize outdated operations with lightweight software
Our goal is simple: save time, reduce stress, and help companies grow without burning out.
👋 Who We Help
We typically work with:
Business owners, operators, or managers
Companies doing things manually and looking to level up
Teams that are tired of “just dealing with it” and want better systems
We always start small. A quick win. A free consultation.
We show value first, before talking about long-term work.
So the goal is to help small businesses solve problems using software. Mostly routine tasks that either don’t scale, are monotonous, or can save them a ton of time (and money).
🤯 A Realization I’m Still Sitting With
Starting a company isn’t easy. You’ve got to build trust—and that’s hard when so many people are already asking businesses for their money.
A friend recently gave me advice I’ve been thinking about ever since:
“I go for no. It’s better than not getting anything.”
That stuck with me—thanks Jess!
Because hearing "no" is hard—but it's better than silence. “No” means I’m making progress. It’s one step closer to “yes.”
🙏 How You Can Help
I could use your help spreading the word. If you wouldn’t mind sharing a post, our website, or even better: Making an intro to someone who could use our help. Here’s what someone looks like that might use our help:
They have a business as a manager, owner, operator, or founder.
They likely have inefficiencies in their business. Routine tasks, trouble reaching out to customers and getting a reply, trouble with breaking down spreadsheets, or helping modernize their business operations with technology.
We often start small, very small. We want to prove our value and give you a quick win. That’s our goal.
We offer free consultations where we can walk them through ways to improve their inefficiencies. They’ll get value out of it (that’s our promise).
Could you help me out and share this post with a friend or two? It would mean the world to me.

P.S. Want to hear something funny? I got a new truck and ordered magnets to advertise the business. I spent hours designing the magnets, and redesigning them and finally came up with what I thought was a great idea. Big QR code and phone number, value prop, and the name. I picked them up, slapped them on the side of the truck, and plop! On the ground they were. Wiped off the truck again, and plop, back on the ground.
Apparently cars are all aluminum these days. 🤦♂️
