Building Tomorrow, Today.
I'm working on a camp for kids to learn programming, computer skills, programming Minecraft, and more. It's called Teen Tech Camp, and in this post I share our journey thus far.
Every summer, there’s a camp for everything: sports, drama, sailing, art. But where’s the summer camp for the next generation of builders?
That question’s been on my mind for years. And now, I’m doing something about it.
The Spark
I’ve always loved helping others and teaching. That’s a big part of why I’ve worked in Developer Relations for so long — helping developers grow, solve problems, and stay curious. But lately, I’ve been thinking about taking that same energy and redirecting it toward a younger audience.
Teaching is one of the best ways to keep learning — and learning is something I never want to stop.
Years ago, I spent my summers teaching elementary school kids stop motion animation and computer skills. Watching their creativity unfold, seeing things click in real time — it was electric. Some would go above and beyond, building wild things I never expected. Others would step up to help their peers. It was inspiring.
I never forgot that feeling.
Why Now
I actually bought the domain TeenTechCamp.com years ago. I even tried to launch it once with a few people who were part of a reality show called Silicon Valley. We had meetings. A space. A plan. But I quickly realized: I was more invested than they were.
So the idea sat. Until now.
Because now, it’s time.
Now it’s time to help kids learn the skills that will shape their future — and ours.
What We’re Building
Teen Tech Camp is going to be engaging, hands-on, and — above all — fun.
We’ll teach programming through things kids already love, like Minecraft. We’ll show them how to build inside the game, use logic, think like a developer, and maybe even get their first taste of Python or AI tools.
And that’s just the start.
We're exploring:
Robotics and physical computing
Game design and storytelling
Real-world tech skills they'll carry with them for life
My Hope
More than anything, I want this camp to be something kids get excited about. Something they talk about over dinner. Something that unlocks confidence and curiosity they didn’t know they had.
Even in an AI-driven world, I believe we’ll see more programmers — not fewer. Why? Because programming isn’t just about code. It’s about how we solve problems, think creatively, and build the future.
Unfortunately, most schools aren’t teaching that.
So we are.
What’s Next
I’m actively securing a location in the Annapolis/Edgewater area and finalizing the first session. I’m working on a flexible curriculum, daily updates for parents, and even a certificate of completion. I want this to feel special.
And the response so far? Overwhelming. Parents are interested. Kids are excited. I’ve even had offers to help teach.
If you want to follow the journey — or get involved — visit TeenTechCamp.com. We’re just getting started.
Let’s build tomorrow, together.
